Description

SPAX Window Construction Screw FEX-KS

The simple Phillips drive (also known as a cross-head drive) offers the advantage over a simple slotted drive that the tool blade of the screwdriver can no longer slip out to the side and damage the workpiece. However, when the screw is tightened firmly, an axial force occurs due to the tapering of the inner flanks in the cross slot, which pushes the blade out of the drive point. This phenomenon is also known as the Cam-Out effect. We integrate the cross slot H-drive into our window construction screws (FEX) because the screwing torque is not as high here.

The countersunk head (or flat countersunk head) is the most commonly used head geometry in the SPAX universe. It has a conically tapered shape and is pronounced as a 90°-MULTI head at SPAX. Our countersunk screws offer the optimal compromise between maximum resistance to the occurring head pull-through forces and a discreet and visually appealing fastening. With its polygonal underside ("pockets"), the countersunk head mills its suitable recess in the wood itself, therefore it can be optimally countersunk in wood without the need for additional countersinking of the screw hole and then flush with the surface.

In certain areas, you may need to fasten wooden components to metal substructures. This is the case, for example, with our SPAX ALU terrace screw or in drywall construction. Since normal screws would fail on hard metal, we also offer screws with a special drill tip. Externally, the tip resembles that of a metal drill bit and has two small cutting edges. The SPAX ALU drills into aluminium up to 4mm wall thickness so that the thread can groove into the material. You can screw them in just as easily as our wood construction screws.

Effective corrosion protection for screws is essential in constructions in non-exposed outdoor areas. Here, SPAX has developed a coating called WIROX, which surpasses conventional galvanisation in terms of protection and durability. Screws coated with WIROX are significantly more resistant to mechanical stress than the yellowish chromated counterparts. WIROX does not use chromium(VI), so even after years in non-directly exposed outdoor areas, the screws are not only just as durable, but also environmentally friendly.
